On Friday, September 12th, the California State Senate voted 25-8 to approve AB 1156 (Wicks), legislation that would allow farmland under Williamson Act contracts to be temporarily converted to solar-use only on lands with poor soils, low productivity, or insufficient water for viable farming. As the legislation continues to move forward, the bill author will work with the Governor’s office on some implementation details, with the goal of finalizing the legislation for a final vote in the Assembly next year.
California Legacy Partnership is grateful for all of the support to advance this important bill that would create 22,000 sustained jobs and generate over $34 billion in labor income and $7 billion in tax revenue by 2045 — funding that can improve schools, hospitals, emergency services, and infrastructure in some of California’s most underserved communities.
We look forward to continuing our work together in the coming months to secure the next generation's stewardship of a healthy, clean, and prosperous future. Please continue to keep an eye here for updates. |
